Costain

Costain is a leading UK engineering and construction company, which has a portfolio spanning more than 140 years of technical excellence, and a vision to be one of the UK’s top solutions providers. Costain provides solutions to a number of markets including water, energy, rail and highways. Their reaction to the system was that it was a “practical and usable solution to manage the millions of records that were difficult and time consuming to manage previously”.

Mosaic Costain System Records:

• Site induction records
• Pre start daily briefings (10am reports workers on site who missed the briefing so they can be contacted and provided the briefing. After 12pm if a worker still has not had a briefing they are locked out)
• Risk assessment and method statements (RAMS)
• Training records
• Competency cards (CSCS/CPCS)
• Toolbox talks
• Occupational health for safety critical roles

The system provides full reporting at all levels; from Project to Group and synchronises with the current management systems (PWA).

On some sites the system also integrates with Access Control giving further improvements on site competency management. Sites are split into Zones where different levels of competency are required therefore access can only be gained if the user is qualified to be there. Also, valuable auto reports are produced in real time to reduce site risks such as whether there are enough First Aiders or Fire Marshalls on site. 

Mobile PDA’s are used at entrance gate that has a SIM card so it updates system in real time and visitor day passes that automatically expire after 24 hours are being used.
